Thrive in partnership with No Panic

Did you know that 40% of disability is due to depression and anxiety? 1 in 4 people in the UK have a mental health condition. 75% of people with anxiety do not seek help. So, there needs to be a safe, confidential way these people can get the support they may need—2018 may bring the solution!

Given the high number of people that prefer to seek help confidentially, the charity called ‘No Panic’ aim to help those who have panic attacks, phobias, OCD and other anxiety disorders.

No Panic is a phone helpline where people who need to talk about their anxiety can find support. All volunteers are trained and are available every day of the year. They have a range of services, which include a night time crisis line, a 12 hour phone line, recovery groups, one to one mentoring, recovery programmes and guides on starting a local self help group!

No Panic specialises in self-help recovery. This allows people to develop the skills they need to manage their own condition and work towards recovery. All of No Panic's services are provided via phone so they can reach as many people as possible—no matter their situation. Every year, the help line receives 75,000! No Panic has now partnered with Thrive in attempt to support as many people with anxiety as possible and possibly grow that number.

Thrive: Feel Stress Free is an app which uses evidenced-based techniques. It provides prevention, screening and self-management programmes for common mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and mild depression. Research has shown that for those who screen positive for mild-moderate anxiety and/or depression, 96% of them improve within 8 weeks of using the app regularly. It has also been shown to reduce depression recovery time.

Prevention: The app encourages help-seeking behaviour and detects issues before they become too severe. Thrive is not for the 1 in 4 struggling with their mental wellbeing, it is for the 4 in 4 of us that need to care for our mental wellbeing and cope with life's daily stresses. The exercises within the app, mood tracking and features all are based on evidence and help prevent mental health conditions.

Screening: Screening is done by using PHQ9/GAD7 quiz to analyse a user's mental wellbeing, from this daily screen the app can determine if a user is likely to be experiencing anxiety and or depression. Users will be then be 'prescribed' a personalised plan within the app and, if necessary, directed to the right support within the company to improve their mental wellbeing.

Self-management: The app includes many forms of clinically proven self-management, from mindfulness/breathing techniques to distraction therapy. The four relaxation techniques are calm breathing, meditation, self-suggestion, and deep muscle relaxation. This means that there is always something for everyone. Each of the techniques are evidence-based, clinically proven, and used in real life therapy to help manage common mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and mild depression.

Together, No Panic and Thrive are able to reach a lot more people to support the prevention, detection and treatment of common mental health conditions including anxiety.
